The West Kootenay RCIP received 259 new Community Recommendation Applications during the September 2026 intake. Together with 108 applications remaining from the June intake, there are 367 applications eligible for consideration in this intake.
At this stage, applications with preliminary scores of 93 points or higher will be reviewed by staff. We will also check applications scoring 91 or 92 points in case score verification brings them to 93 points or higher. This is not a final cut-off.
Where can I find the preliminary score?
The preliminary score was shown on the confirmation screen after the Community Recommendation Application was submitted. It can also be found at the top of the PDF copy of the application that employers were asked to download for their records.
What Happens Next?
RCIP staff will review applications around and above the preliminary score of 93 based on program eligibility requirements, community selection criteria, and the number of Community Recommendations available.
The review will include confirming:
- the accuracy of the preliminary score;
- the candidate’s eligibility;
- the completeness and accuracy of supporting documents; and
- that the required IMM 0247 and IMM 0248 forms have been filled-out correctly.
The preliminary score is the score automatically generated when the application is submitted. Scores are then verified by RCIP staff. Preliminary scores may increase or decrease during staff review. For example:
- Score may decrease: If an application claims points for education, work experience, language, or another factor, but the supporting documents do not confirm those points, then the score will be reduced.
- Score may increase: If the application did not claim points that the candidate is eligible for, but the supporting documents clearly confirm them, then the score will be increased.
As a result, an application that initially scores 91 or 92 may increase to 93 or higher, while an application that initially scores 93 or higher may move below that score.
Applications that are complete, eligible, and remain within the highest-scoring group after staff review will be presented to the West Kootenay RCIP Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee will review 100 of the highest-scoring applications. West Kootenay RCIP has 77 Community Recommendations, all of which will be used in this intake.
This means that not every eligible application in the top 100 will receive a recommendation.
We are unable to provide individual application updates or comment on the likelihood of selection while the review is underway. Employers and candidates will be contacted when there is an update on their application.
Applications that do not move forward for review
At this stage, applications with preliminary scores below 91 points are outside the range being reviewed by staff and will not move forward in this intake.
These applications will also not be carried forward to the next intake in 2027. A new application will need to be submitted if the employer and candidate wish to apply again.
We recognize that this will be disappointing for many candidates and employers.
Employers who would like information about other immigration pathways that may help them retain skilled workers can contact the RCIP team and ask to be connected with an IRCC Outreach Officer for one-on-one immigration support.
Next Intake
The next West Kootenay RCIP intake will take place in 2027.
The intake date, priorities, selection criteria, and allocation from IRCC have not yet been confirmed and may be different from 2026.
Updates will be posted on this website and emailed to designated employers.
